November 14, 2012, Burbank, CA) Emmy® Award-winning Original Productions, (OP) has promoted two of its key experienced creative production executives: Philip Segal has been named CEO & Executive Producer with Jeff Conroy appointed President and Executive Producer. Segal replaces Thom Beers, recently appointed CEO of OP parent company FremantleMedia North America (FMNA) and Original Productions’ Chairman. The prolific company produces powerhouse series including Deadliest Catch, Ice Road Truckers, Storage Wars, Ax Men, and Bering Sea Gold.

Philip D. Segal joined Original Productions in 2005 as President and Executive Producer and was promoted to CEO and Executive Producer in November, 2012. During his first seven years at Original Productions, Segal had operating responsibility for Original Productions’ thousands of hours of original programming. Segal was responsible for integrating business, creative development and field production and post-production entities for all scripted and non-scripted programming. He is Executive Producer of ratings toppers such as Bering Sea Gold and Bering Sea Gold: Under the Ice on Discovery, Storage Wars, and Storage Wars: Texas and American Hoggers on A&E and Ice Road Truckers and Ax Men on History.
Prior to joining Original Productions, Segal spent three years as Executive Vice President of Bunim-Murray Productions and as Senior Vice President of Programming and Production for Tribune Entertainment. From 1990 to 1996, Segal was Executive Vice President of Amblin Television at Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment. Before joining Amblin, he was a programming executive at ABC Television.
Segal began his multi-faceted industry career at Fenton Feinberg Casting, the ICM TV Literary Department training program and Columbia Pictures Television. In the mid-1990’s he also ran Lakeshore Television, where he directed The Other Side of Monday, which won the “Best Director” Award from the New York International Film Festival. A long-time fan of the BBC’s popular science fiction series Doctor Who, Segal was instrumental in creating and producing The Doctor’s eighth regeneration in the 1996 telemovie, Doctor Who, bringing back the BBC favorite. In 2000, he co-wrote a book about the production, titled Doctor Who: Regeneration.
Born in the United Kingdom, Segal was raised in Southern California and is a graduate of San Diego State University with a degree in Telecommunications. He is a member of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (ATAS), a member of the National Association of Broadcasters NAB Show® Program Advisory Group and is on the Board of Directors of the prestigious Mountain Film Festival in Telluride, Colorado.
President & EP Original Productions
Jeff Conroy joined the Original Productions team in 2001, was promoted to Vice President, Programming in 2007, Executive Vice President, Programming in 2011 and President and Executive Producer in November, 2012. He is the Executive Producer of the multi-Emmy® Award winning Deadliest Catch which has been honored as the 2011 Best Reality Program and is now in its ninth season of production for Discovery.
Early in his tenure at Original Productions, Conroy played a leading role in developing Monster Garage, a five season staple on Discovery, serving as Supervising Producer. Among Conroy’s development and production projects are two of the highest rated series on History: Ice Road Truckers, and Ax Men. He has also guided multiple seasons of Storage Wars, and Storage Wars: Texas, huge ratings hits for A&E; Wild Justice on the National Geographic Channel, and Black Gold for truTV.
Conroy holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications and Theater from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, where he is an alumni guest lecturer and a member of the Advisory Board to the Communications Department. Conroy is a member of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (ATAS).
