Now based in Sydney and Melbourne, FremantleMedia Australia was formed in 2006 by the merger of Grundy Television and CrackerJack, which had both been acquired by FremantleMedia.
Grundy was formed by Reg Grundy and started out with The Wheel of Fortune, which aired in 1959. The production company has had a string of hits in the serial drama genre, including The Young Doctors, Sons and Daughters and Prisoner.
Neighbours launched in the mid-80s and was an instant success. The long running audience favourite now airs on Australia’s channel Eleven and on Five in the UK. It is UK broadcaster Five’s highest rated daytime show.
A forerunner of original comedy programming, Crackerjack created Comedy Inc, The Chaser Decides, So Fresh, Australia’s Brainiest Kid and The Biggest Loser.
Today, FremantleMedia Australia remains the market leader with hit shows such as The X Factor, Australia’s Got Talent, The Farmer Wants a Wife, Grand Designs, Project Runway and Neighbours.
Ian Hogg is the CEO of FremantleMedia Asia Pacific.
